Adult Therapy

General Care

In my practice I work with adults experiencing a wide range of issues - college students adapting to the challenges of setting out on their own, parents adapting to home life without children, and individuals experiencing work stress, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, or relationship issues. Using both a CBT and a DBT-informed approach provides the flexibility to move between building practical skills for managing day-to-day stressors and exploring the underlying thoughts and behaviors contributing to those stressors.

Suicide Care

For those living with suicidal thoughts or following a suicide attempt

In addition to my broad expertise, I specialize in working with individuals at risk of suicide. If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide or have struggled following a suicide attempt, please know that you're not alone. I am here to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to talk about these thoughts and feelings. I believe strongly that it is possible to move beyond the darkness of suicide and develop a life worth living. If you have had difficulty finding a therapist comfortable with this issue, know that you are welcome here.

Adolescent
Therapy

General Care

I work with adolescents (ages 12+) on a wide range of issues using both CBT and DBT-informed practices. Teens I work with present with a wide range of concerns that include academic or social pressure as well as feelings of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Each child is different and my therapeutic approach tends to be tailored to meet their individual needs. I find that both CBT and DBT approaches are particularly useful for many of these issues and are designed to teach practical skills for regulating emotions, tolerating distressful feelings, and generally reducing impulsive behaviors.

Suicide Care

For teens who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, have made a suicide attempt, or who struggle with self-harm.

In addition to my broad expertise, I specialize in working with adolescents at risk of suicide.

While it is natural for teens to experience intense emotions, for some these feelings can become overwhelming and difficult to manage.  In therapy, I provide a safe environment for teens to express their emotions and fears, develop more adaptive coping skills, and begin to learn that there is a future that can feel remarkably different.

For parents of teens who experience thoughts of suicide or self-harm

Part of my work with teens, particularly around the issue of suicide and self-harm, involves working to support parents in navigating this stressful time. It can be so overwhelming to have a child that is struggling and while it is essential to focus on the specific needs of your child, I also want to make sure that you as parents are getting the emotional support that you need. This can include learning ways to talk to your teen about suicide, how to manage your responses to self-harm, or learning when to step away. Therapy with your teen will also include meetings with you as needed.

NOTE: Suicide care for adolescents requires in-person sessions. In addition, adolescent intake requires a session with you (parent or guardian) first before scheduling with your child.

Fees & Insurance

  • Therapy: My fee is $295 for 45 min session.

Training: See the For Clinicians page for all training options

  • I am an Out-Of-Network Provider. What this means is that, while I do not accept insurance, services may be covered in full or in part by your health care plan. It is important to contact your insurance company to determine your specific out-of-network benefits as well as whether you have an “out-of-pocket maximum”. Some insurance companies set a limit on what you are expected to pay out of pocket during any given year and reimburse all costs over this - regardless of out-of-network coverage.

  • I accept Venmo, Zelle, and most major credit cards.

  • To ensure the smooth operation of my practice, I need at least 24 hr advance notice if you need to cancel your appointment.

I completely understand that life can be unpredictable, and I always do my best to accommodate appointment changes. If you need to reschedule with short notice and there's availability within the same week, I'll gladly switch your appointment time at no additional charge. However, if there are no openings for the same week and you cancel without sufficient notice, a fee equivalent to the full session will apply.

Please note that cancellations made within an hour of your session time will incur charges, regardless of the availability for rescheduling.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Your commitment to our appointments helps ensure the effectiveness of our therapeutic work together.

FAQ

  • CBT, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is a trusted and practical approach to therapy that helps individuals understand and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected and that by changing our thoughts, we can change how we feel and behave. It's like a toolkit for the mind, where you work alongside your therapist to learn practical skills and coping strategies to overcome challenges and improve your overall well-being. With its focus on collaboration and practical solutions, CBT has proven to be highly effective in treating a wide range of mental health issues.

  • DBT, or Dialectical Behavior Therapy, is a specialized form of therapy that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with concepts of mindfulness and acceptance. It was originally developed to treat individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) but has since been adapted for various mental health issues. DBT helps individuals learn skills to manage emotions, improve relationships, and cope with distressing situations more effectively. With its emphasis on mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance, DBT offers practical tools for navigating life's challenges and fostering personal growth.

  • Being "DBT-Informed" means I integrate principles and techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into my therapeutic practice. A full DBT program typically involves a client attending weekly DBT skills training sessions, individual therapy, and phone coaching, which some people can find too intensive for their needs. Being DBT-informed allows me to apply valuable insights and strategies from DBT to enhance my practice and allows for flexibility and customization while still benefiting from the evidence-based practices of DBT.

  • Not at all. My clients seek support for a wide range of issues. While some may grapple with anxiety or mood disorders, others may be navigating significant life or work transitions or stressors, and seek guidance in processing these challenges and planning a path forward. I highlight suicide care and my expertise in assessment and intervention because I have dedicated many years to supporting those struggling with thoughts of suicide and it is important to me that anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts feels safe and supported in my practice.
