FREE TRAINING: Suicide Assessment and Brief Interventions to Maintain Safety
December 5, 2025 12pm - 2pm (EST)
About the Training
This training will include a brief review of the risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide, detailed information on how to conceptualize client risk and undertake a practical suicide assessment, and a review of two evidence-based brief interventions (safety planning and lethal means counseling) to maintain client "safety for now." The primary goal of the training is to provide clinicians with clear, practical guidance so that any time a client expresses thoughts of suicide, you feel confident and prepared to assess the risk and support your client in maintaining safety. The assessment presented is based on the model used by the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (as described in this blog).
This training is designed for behavioral health professionals, including but not limited to psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, and nurses, who want to enhance their skills in working with individuals at risk of suicide. It is appropriate for both early career clinicians as well as any seasoned clinician hoping to further develop their competence and confidence in working with those at risk of suicide. In developing this training, particular consideration was given to the needs of private practitioners who often operate without the structured support that is available in larger clinic settings - but the content applies to behavioral health clinicians in any setting.
